A Twitter bot is a bot software that is used to control a Twitter account via the Twitter API. From sending direct messages to automating tweets, from generating auto retweet to auto likes – a Twitter bot offers several skills that you can take advantage of. Twitter has now become one of the top three social media platforms in the world. One tricky part of making a bot for Twitter is that if you want your bot to be able to actually post on Twitter, rather than just read from it, you will need to add a phone number to your account. There is a few ways to solve this. Twitter bots can do a heck of a lot more than just spam trending hashtags and relentlessly follow users. Take the Twisst ISS alerts bot, which sends you a direct message whenever the international space station (ISS) will be visible at your location.
MoMA Bot is one of my favorite Twitter Bots on this list. If you are someone who is interested in modern art, you will appreciate this bot. The bot basically tweets a random object from the collection of the Museum of Modern Art four times a day. The best part is that the tweet comes with the link of the object on the Museum of Modern Art’s.
Twitter can be used as a device-independent, global command line that sits on top of a large user-base.

Despite the rules concerning the Twitter API use having gotten stricter throughout the years, Twitter remains a popular network for bot makers and enthusiasts, which can be easily proved by the variety of bots operating on it:
Some example bots include:
- @censusAmericans: tweeting the census one real American at a time
- @congressedits: shows anonymous Wikipedia edits that are made from IP addresses in the US Congress
- @Betelgeuse_3: based on the “obnoxious, devious ghost named Betelgeuse” from the 1988 movie Beetlejuice
- @infinitedeserts: an infinity of deserts
- @JustDiedBot: tweets about celebrity deaths once they are posted on Wikipedia
- @bartleby_scrvnr: responds to @ mentions using lines from Bartleby, the Scrivener
- @riverlevel_1867: one of 2,400+ water level-monitoring UK Twitter bots
- @GenerateACat: generates a drawing of a cat when someone follows or tweets at it
